Tyke Hockey

-Tim Hamilton explained a “Select Tyke Team” option to guests present. (Oct 8th minutes)

- Guest concerned about additional cost to be paid by parents with skaters on the select team.

- Pete Holt was able to locate 13 kids who were interested in playing on a tyke team for the upcoming season

- Guest does not feel that parents with kids just starting into our hockey system  were well informed regarding their options in placing their skater in the right division.  New parents coming into our hockey program are not aware of how it works and were not made aware that they are allowed to attend board meetings etc.

-Guest felt that most parents with a tyke age skater did not think their skater was ready to play at a novice level.

-Guest also felt that the Beginner Level is made up of too many kids who are not able to skate at all and that kids who are able to skate are not benefiting from sharing the ice with these kids (ice is being divided). This is a hockey program not a “learn to skate” program.

- A board member informed our guests that all GMHA information and board members to contact can be found on our web site or posted on the board in the arena, upcoming events are posted throughout the town and in our local paper. The information is available but parents are responsible for locating it.

- A tyke team was built into our original ice budget and a sponsor is available for this team.

- Parents must be made aware of the extra cost involved in moving their skater from Beginner to Tyke.

Motion – to have a full tyke team with each player paying full registration $300 + 100

      Eddie/Scott    DEFEATED

Motion -  to have a full tyke team with each player paying full registration $300 + 100 BUT 11skaters must register and paid in full  by Oct 30th 2009

      Sandy/Rachelle       all – yes  CARRIED

Guest comment - Pete Holt will take care of the Tyke team for the next 5yrs

Registration

-Have had 2 outstanding registrations paid in full.  Still waiting on a few more, Tim and Sandy will stay on top of this to be sure payment is made before the Oct. 30th deadline

Refunds

-Guest, Tom McCallum confirmed that the Policy outlined below is the general guideline GMHA has used in the past regarding refunds

 GMHA Refund Policy

1. If a skater does not go on the ice at all they can receive a full refund minus the insurance fee

2. If they tryout then quit  -  insurance + subsidized portion of tryouts will be deducted from registration

3. If they quit after Oct 1st - 1/3 deducted off total registration

4. If they quit after Nov 1st - 2/3 deducted off total registration

5. If they quit after Dec 1st - no refund will be given

Motion-  to adopt the refund policy stated above    Rachelle/Bob P     CARRIED

Shamrock -  Cindy Staels

- Troy Carlson of St. Thomas spoke regarding mentorship etc.  Can be available for presentations to our centre.

- With the upcoming flu season and H1N1 virus, it is not required for the players to take off their gloves when shaking hands before a game.  It is still considered good sportsmanship if gloves remain on.

- On ice volunteers must be at least 2 years older than the division age they are associated with. If they are 14 yrs under must wear full player equipment.  14 yrs. older must wear the same equipment as on-ice team official (helmet, skates, gloves, etc.)

- Hockey Canada Insurance Fees for "On-Ice Volunteers" given to Sandy Crosby.  List with payment due to OMHA by December 10, 2009.

- President emailed CINDY – OMHA does not want coaches and managers from the Shamrock leagues to contact them to confirm game changes.  All confirmations are done through our Shamrock rep.

- Parkhill Bantam wanting to go A/E

- Some centres curfew games.  At least 30 minutes of hockey must be played before a curfew.  Coaches will be made aware of this on game sheet of home centre.

-Dodge Poster Contest will be displayed in the arena

QUESTION: Are Shamrock games allowed to have a curfew?

ANSWER: Yes, as per OMHA!  If a game is curfew’d it must be marked on the game sheet and signed by the coach.

Try County - Bob Pearson

-Tyke team is expected by TC league. Could be 9 teams. The Tri-County league sets the playing rules, coaches and centres cannot override. Tyke games require 2 referees. Play 3 10-minute period games. Game schedule starts the first of December. Scheduling meeting on Nov 10th @ 7:30.

-Coaching staff and game sheets signing requirements.

-All game sheets must have a Coach, Trainer and Manager signed on to the sheet before any assistant coaches or trainers are allowed to sign. If a manager is not available, one of the assistants should sign in as a manager. There is a one-game suspension for each person signing in with out a manager signature. See section 6.1 of OMHA Operations Manual and Action Bulletin of Sep 30th for correction.

-Novice A moving to LL play.

Cindy has to get OMHA approval from Sue Michalski. Once approval is given we submit the request to the Tri-County league and the OMHA rep (Craig Lane) must approve. After that we pay the registration fees, the late registration fine and scheduling fees. The team can play in the TC league after all that is complete.

-Teams are reminded to carry rosters.

-An individual can only be roster to two teams or one team plus an at large list. The later is strategically wiser as it allows more flexibility. An individual rostered to two teams CANNOT hold the same position on both teams; i.e. cannot be head coach of two teams or cannot be trainer of two teams.

-Coaches are reminded to check game sheets immediately after the game. They have one-hour to request changes, after that whatever the game sheet says ids what is officially recorded. Glencoe has already had numerous game sheet errors this year.

-Coaches are expected to know penalties and the automatic game suspensions that accompany them. For instance; an INS (Instigator) automatically gets the INS36 suspension of 1-game, an AGG (Aggressor) automatically gets an AGG37 1-game suspension. Even if the accompanying codes are not written on the game sheet the coach must sit the player. Failure earns an additional game for the player and three games for the coach. Other penalties to watch for are FI (fighting) CFB (checking from behind) and CTH (Checking to the head). There is no appealing if the coach misses one of these, he/she will have to deal with it.

-They feel that this age group is too old to be sharing

-They do not feel that their kids are benefiting from sharing ice nor do they feel that their skater’s skills are being well developed.

-The kids on the teams are not happy with shared ice.

-They also questioned why the 3 Atom teams are given 3 hrs of ice.

- Peewee A team is not concerned with quantity of ice they are interested in quality.
